6 Most Interesting Marine Life Animals To Know
May 11, 2023

The ocean is filled with thousands of creatures yet to be discovered. For the marine life that we do know about, there exist many interesting animals that look unique and distinguish themselves uniquely from the rest of the sea creatures we know and love.

Below are the 6 most interesting marine life animals to know about that don’t look real!

1. Frilled Shark

The frilled shark is a crazy sea creature that looks like a scary monster! The frilled shark can grow to nearly seven feet long. The name of this animal comes from the frilly look of the shark’s gills.  Another fascinating thing is the shark almost swims in a serpent-like fashion.

2 .Christmas Tree Worm

This sea creature was found on the Great Barrier Reef’s Lizard Island. The name of this worm is appropriately named after its body which resembles that of a Christmas tree. The body of the worm has branches that help the creature breathe and feed. The worm’s bright blue color also gives a distinct look to this unique worm.

3. The Squidworm

The squidworm was discovered in 2007 at about 1.8 miles under the ocean. This worm has a unique appearance thanks to its 10-plus appendages that stick out of the worm’s head. The appendages nearly look like long tentacles that create a funky appearance for this animal. The squidworm has so many tentacle-like limbs to collect debris in the ocean, referred to as “marine snow”.

4. Giant Squid

The Giant Squid is a monstrous creature that is nearly half the size of a whale. The longest Giant Squid known was measured at 43 feet long. Therefore, the sheer size of this creature is noteworthy, not to mention the mystery that exists regarding this creature. This is because, besides carcasses that wash up along the shoreline, little is known of the Giant Squid when living because it is believed to inhabit ocean waters so deep that are yet to be explored by researchers.

5. Armored Snail

This is another interesting animal that looks prehistoric. The armored snail goes by several names such as the “scaly-foot snail” after the snail’s scaly appearance. A fun fact about this creature is that its shell structure is extremely durable, providing a layer of protection to this snail for survival purposes.

6. Vampire Squid

Last but not least, this creature is strange as it’s neither a squid (as the name suggests) nor an octopus. In fact, researchers have categorized this animal to be in an entirely separate category, despite the animal having eight arms and two tentacles commonplace in most squids.

Furthermore, despite the name of this creature, the animal doesn’t suck blood from other animals. Rather the name comes from the skin that exists and connects its arms together, appearing almost like the cape of a vampire.
